Big Brothers Big Sisters recognizes the importance of our youth not only having an opinion but also speaking their minds, with all that is going on in the world, we wanted the Youth of Maui County to have an opportunity to do speak. Big Brothers Big Sisters Kid Reporter Program was created to facilitate this opportunity.
BBBS carefully selected the six most qualified Kid Reporters, who are now representing the BBBS program. All of our Kid Reporters attended Akaku: Maui Community Television's Young Reporters Media Camp, and are "youth certified" to use cameras and editing equipment. They are also trained on the technique and etiquette of being a reporter. All of them are now well equipped to go out into the community to report on important happenings, express themselves and make a positive difference within our community and throughout the world.
It is our hope that our Kid Reporters will take from this program a sense of freedom of speech, they know how to get the publics thoughts and opinions as well as their own, out into the world and to possibly even build a career out of this experience.
Stay tuned for upcoming events covered by Big Brothers Big Sisters' Kid Reporters. All will be posted via newspaper, television, Big Brothers Big Sisters Newsletter or Website
