Bowl 4 Kids Sake
Bowl for Kids Sake is our annual bowling tournament held in the Maui Bowling Center in Wailuku. In this event our Bigs and Littles are invited to bowl for free. The community is also invited to participate and make a team of five bowlers. Each bowler is instructed to raise at least a certain amount of money but encouraged to collect as much as possible. Every participating team receives a lane to bowl for an hour, BBBS t-shirt, and an all-you-can-eat lunch. The bowler with the most money raised will receive our grand prize which is usually an exciting trip to another island or even to the mainland. Corporate sponsors are also invited to participate. By sponsoring this event, their banner is hung up around the bowling alley and is included in our ads.
Every year past participants are excited for our Bowl for Kids Sake event. Bowlers hustle to try and raise as much money to see if they can win the grand prize. Friends and co-workers create teams and challenge one another all in good fun. Having a blast as well as helping spread the word of Big Brothers Big Sisters all at the same time is what makes this event very successful.
Gingerbread House Celebration
Check out the photo slideshow of the 2008 event
Gingerbread House Celebration is open to all our matches and to the community who are interested in sponsoring this event. During the celebration we decorate a whole community of gingerbread houses. The community includes a church, a school, and many houses big and small. All the buildings are decorated with lights, frosting, and lots and lots of candies. All the participants are responsible for decorating their designated houses. Depending on the size of the houses, our participants often times work together to decorate them as best they could. There’s no right or wrong way to do it.
Every year as we gather to rebuild our sweet community our personalities are depicted in the way we choose to decorate our houses. We always have a great time decorating as well as sneaking a couple of candies in our mouths before we put one on the roof of our houses. This event gathers the young and the old together to share the beauty of Christmas.
Annual Dinner
Our Annual Dinner is a big gala that we celebrate to thank our sponsors for their continued support for without them it would be very difficult for BBBS to serve its mission. During this event we include a silent auction, a live auction, entertainment, special guest speakers, and most importantly we introduce our Big Brothers and Big Sister of the year.
Our Annual Dinner’s main purpose is to celebrate the communities support as well as the difference their advocacy is making in our community.
*All of our events and the money they bring in support all of our programs (Community Base, Lunch Buddies, After School Mentoring Program, and Big Reader).
