Wake up under the stars

Wake up under the stars

These days, it seems all tourists want on their vacations is absolute luxury. If it’s not five star, all-inclusive then they’re just not interested. The worst places for these kind of resorts are found in the Caribbean, where visitors are actually encouraged to remain in their hotel enclosure for the whole two weeks of their holiday, only leaving when it’s time to go back to the airport and home. The reps fill their heads with horror stories about crime rates, robbery and unscrupulous locals – and before you know it, you realise the holiday is over and you’ve only seen the pool, the restaurant and the inside of your room!
Not on Hawaii, thank goodness. Not only are you encouraged to mix with the locals and see all parts of the islands, but there aren’t too many of those top notch luxurious hotels for you to choose from. I’m afraid you might have to rough it!
Luckily, roughing it on Hawaii involves sleeping in hammocks on the beach or, if you really want to splash the cash, staying in a cabin; the Hawaiian version of the British caravan, I suppose. These cabins are stocked with kitchens, bathrooms, living areas and usually have fabulous sea views. Plus you don’t need to worry about caravan insurance! There really is no better feeling than waking up on a morning to the sound of the waved lapping against the shore, going for an early morning dip in the warm waters and then enjoying a fresh fruit breakfast. It may not be five star luxury, but that sounds idyllic to me!
