Americans Shouldn’t Just Grin and Bear Airport Security
By simply going along with the very many changes that have happened to airport security over recent years, and not making much noise to express their disappointment, air travel passengers are only making things worse for themselves. If many people expressed their outrage by not taking so many flights each year, and instead took trains, buses, or drove then the airport authorities and government would reconsider the increasingly invasive procedures that they force passengers to endure.
The recent scandal over the scanners which reveal an almost naked image of the passenger to airport security was a big news story, perhaps on the biggest news story of the year. But that storm passed very quickly. And it’s surprizing because nothing actually changed at the airports. People are still either being subjected to the electronic scan, or if they refuse that, they must endure an invasive pat down which causes many passengers a lot of distress and is simply too much to subject any passenger to, especially since they’ve paid for the priveledge after earning money through things like Galvan FSA.
In wars and politics over the last few hundreds years we’ve fought for exactly the freedoms which are now being taken away from us, almost solely for the supposed reason of protecting exactly those freedoms. It’s a frightening paradox, but one which many people are quick to forget. But rather than simply protest the fact that it is not neccessary to be so invasive, it’s best to remind the airport operators and the government that it’s not security procedures but passengers who stop the majority of terrorist attacks from happening.
In recent tests on airport security in the United States, a frightening number of knives, guns, and explosive got through security scanners. Scanners are not effective, they are humiliating and should be stopped.
