Hawaiian vacation- who is going to stay cooped in a hotel?

Would you be interested in taking your family to a holiday in Dublin where they will be staying in a hostel Dublin establishment? Well, the idea of letting your family stay in the hostel may not appeal to you. You may feel that your family should deserve something better and that you should be in a position to afford a stay in a three or four star hotel before you plan the vacation, right? Wrong. Dublin is such a wonderful place that it does not matter where you live in the city. Once you reach the destination, you will find it virtually impossible to stay in your hotel room for a long period of time. In fact, your family will be pleased at the fact that you chose an inexpensive hostel thereby having more cash in your hand for the various activities that can be done in and around the city.

Escaping to Maui

After weeks of desperate research I have finally been able to find appropriate HR software for the company I work for. I hope that not only would my choice be accepted, but hopefully all the extra hours I spent at work would also benefit me when I apply for the promotion I have been waiting for long. Anyway, work is finished for now and I am off to Maui. I have heard about Maui so much that now I really want to see it with my own eyes.

Hawaii – Faux Pas

Hawaii - Faux Pas

However near or far you may venture on your travels it is always worth carrying out a little minor prior research so as to save face on arrival, with Hawaii being no exception. While indeed a state of the USA, Hawaii has a unique culture all of its own and for those looking to avoid faux pas at all possible costs, the following may be no less than golden advice.

Firstly, be prepared to get used to the the way in which the language differs from the mainland. The local way of speaking is known as Pidgin and was originally used and developed by immigrant workers as a way of communicating without those in charge understanding what was being said. Pidgin has evolved and takes some getting used to, but is essentially not too difficult to understand. However, the biggest faux pas most make is trying out Pidgin for themselves, which is never recommended and likely to be ridiculed and frowned upon by the true locals.

If visiting a home, always bring the hostess a gift by way of food or wine or even one of your ornate Backgammon sets UK friends donated to your trip – but never, ever money. Furthermore, entering a home with shoes on could not be more inappropriate, unless specifically asked to do so.

Furthermore, be sure not to get too confused when asked to don slippers, as the word in Hawaii actually relates to flip flops!

There are thousands of other examples but these are by far and wide the biggest slip ups, but with just a little common sense interest it really isn’t difficult to maintain dignity and instead soak up what make Hawaii such a gem.

A taste of paradise

The beautiful island of Maui, is the second largest island in Hawaii. The island boasts great cultural and historical importance and there is plenty to do during your visit. Witness the whales mating and giving birth around the island in the winter and spring months, or explore the coral reefs to find sea turtles and tropical fish. The large rainforest on the island is also of great importance as it is habitat to an array of interesting and unusual animals and insects.

If you have got some money to spend then why not stay in one of the island’s greatest hotels the Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort. The Grand Wailea is an accommodation of pure luxury, it is nestled amongst some of Maui’s amazing natural beauty and has a lot to offer. The resort offers something for everyone. Set amidst 40 landscaped acres the grounds are truly stunning, and the hotel itself is only steps away from the beach.

If you fancy a spa holiday Grand Wailea can accommodate, be pampered with a whole host of massages and treatments and try out the Terme Hydrotherapy Circuit where you can indulge your senses in your choice of five aromatic baths. You will feel soothed and nourished after a trip to this spa.

Want something more lively, why not get involved in one of the island’s luaus and soak in the musical and cultural aspects that the island have to offer.

The rooms in the hotel are spectacular and the furnishings look like they could be from Dot Maison, with a choice of sleek suites or luxury villas you can’t go wrong, and the hotel are always doing special offers, so don’t miss out!

Wake up under the stars

Wake up under the stars

These days, it seems all tourists want on their vacations is absolute luxury. If it’s not five star, all-inclusive then they’re just not interested. The worst places for these kind of resorts are found in the Caribbean, where visitors are actually encouraged to remain in their hotel enclosure for the whole two weeks of their holiday, only leaving when it’s time to go back to the airport and home. The reps fill their heads with horror stories about crime rates, robbery and unscrupulous locals – and before you know it, you realise the holiday is over and you’ve only seen the pool, the restaurant and the inside of your room!
Not on Hawaii, thank goodness. Not only are you encouraged to mix with the locals and see all parts of the islands, but there aren’t too many of those top notch luxurious hotels for you to choose from. I’m afraid you might have to rough it!
Luckily, roughing it on Hawaii involves sleeping in hammocks on the beach or, if you really want to splash the cash, staying in a cabin; the Hawaiian version of the British caravan, I suppose. These cabins are stocked with kitchens, bathrooms, living areas and usually have fabulous sea views. Plus you don’t need to worry about caravan insurance! There really is no better feeling than waking up on a morning to the sound of the waved lapping against the shore, going for an early morning dip in the warm waters and then enjoying a fresh fruit breakfast. It may not be five star luxury, but that sounds idyllic to me!

Americans Shouldn’t Just Grin and Bear Airport Security

comments off

By simply going along with the very many changes that have happened to airport security over recent years, and not making much noise to express their disappointment, air travel passengers are only making things worse for themselves. If many people expressed their outrage by not taking so many flights each year, and instead took trains, buses, or drove then the airport authorities and government would reconsider the increasingly invasive procedures that they force passengers to endure.
The recent scandal over the scanners which reveal an almost naked image of the passenger to airport security was a big news story, perhaps on the biggest news story of the year. But that storm passed very quickly. And it’s surprizing because nothing actually changed at the airports. People are still either being subjected to the electronic scan, or if they refuse that, they must endure an invasive pat down which causes many passengers a lot of distress and is simply too much to subject any passenger to, especially since they’ve paid for the priveledge after earning money through things like Galvan FSA.
In wars and politics over the last few hundreds years we’ve fought for exactly the freedoms which are now being taken away from us, almost solely for the supposed reason of protecting exactly those freedoms. It’s a frightening paradox, but one which many people are quick to forget. But rather than simply protest the fact that it is not neccessary to be so invasive, it’s best to remind the airport operators and the government that it’s not security procedures but passengers who stop the majority of terrorist attacks from happening.
In recent tests on airport security in the United States, a frightening number of knives, guns, and explosive got through security scanners. Scanners are not effective, they are humiliating and should be stopped.
